How the tragedy happened
RELATEDAt 1:00 p.m. local time, the ambush begins on the three vans in which the LeBarón family was transported, according to the chronology offered by the team of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
18 minutes later, according to official chronology, Julián LeBarón asked the National Guard for help. The response of the authorities, however, took about four hours, as it was not until 5:00 in the afternoon that security forces began to move to the place.
At 6:00 in the afternoon, Julián LeBarón and residents go to the place in search of survivors. A relative, Lafe Langford Jr., posts a video on Facebook showing a fully calcined vehicle. With anguish, he is heard saying: "Nita (Rhonita) and four of my grandchildren were burned and shot. Right on the road in the outskirts of La Mora."
President López Obrador justified at the press conference that it is a remote area of the mountains.
