After The Cancellation Of The APEC Forum In Chile, Trump Said The Trade Agreement With China Will Be Signed In The US

US President Donald Trump said Sunday that the first phase of the trade agreement between the United States and China will be signed in the United States.

“There is progress, first I want there to be an agreement, so choosing the place is not a problem for me. If there is an agreement, the question of the place will be easily solved, it will be somewhere in the United States, ”said the New York tycoon.

Trump was scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, and sign the first phase of the trade agreement during the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) in Chile this November. However, the summit was canceled by the country's president, Sebastián Piñera, in the face of protests and riots in the Latin American country, which have resulted in a score of dead so far.

Preliminary information indicated that the pact could be signed in the state of Iowa, among other places.

Washington and Beijing have been waging a trade war since June 2018, when Trump announced the application of tariffs to $ 50 billion in products of the Asian giant with the aim of balancing a negative trade balance for his country.

Since then, both nations have applied several batches of tariff measures while trying to reach an agreement on their trade.

For his part, the Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, announced that the United States will postpone the increase of tariffs of 25 to 30 percent for a set of Chinese products worth 250,000 million dollars, an increase that was expected to take effect on October 15th.
