Mexico-Special Envoy

First face to face contact. Alberto Fernández will leave Mexico City on Wednesday night with a photo that his team believes is important to signal the world in the face of the mistrust that Cristina Kirchner generates. The president-elect had lunch with Mauricio Claver-Carone, the main adviser of Donald Trump for Latin America

Claver-Carone is the new head of Latin America and the Caribbean for the White House. Until recently he was interim executive director of the United States before the International Monetary Fund. He had assumed in September 2018 as director of Western Hemisphere Affairs in the National Security Council. He is a lawyer and was known for his defense of the embargo on the Cuban regime and for his tough stances against Nicolás Maduro and Venezuela.

Felipe Solá also attended the meeting, who accompanied Fernández during his visit to Mexico and that sounds like a possible chancellor of the new government.

Last Friday, Fernandez had had his first telephone conversation with Trump before traveling to Mexico. In the contact the American congratulated him on his electoral triumph and promised him help to deal with the IMF for the debt. "I have instructed the IMF to work with you. Do not hesitate to call me," Trump would have told him, according to the spokesmen of the president-elect.
