Alibaba Exceeds Its Record Of 30,000 Million Dollars In Sales In a Single Day

Sales recorded during the first hour of Singles Day, an event similar to Black Friday, amounted to more than 12,000 million dollars.

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has achieved a new sales record in its Singles Day, one of the biggest online shopping events in the world, which takes place on Monday 11, reports CNBC News.

During a 24-hour period, which began last midnight (Singapore and Hong Kong time), Alibaba offers large sales on its products. To increase sales, the company expanded the quantity of discounted items and put a great emphasis on live streaming through its various platforms.

The gross value of the merchandise (GMV), the figure that accounts for total sales on the various platforms of Alibaba, has already exceeded last year's record, and is currently above 30,000 million dollars while still increasing. In the first hour of the event, the figure rose to more than 12,000 million dollars.

Despite the commercial war between the US and China and concerns that US brands may not be well received by Chinese consumers, Apple's iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max are among the best selling products. The 5G version of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro smartphone also topped the list of the most popular purchases.

Although the day is not over, Alibaba sales on this Singles Day already exceeded consumer spending on days of similar special offers from the US, such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
