At the beginning of the 20th century and from the hand of the Austrian professor and philosopher Rudolf Steiner and the Dutch physician Ita Wegman, this approach arises that relates diseases with biographical events that influence the body, soul and spirit of the person.

"Man is a soul and spiritual being constituted by the elements of nature: water, air, earth and fire and that can be disharmonized, which is when diseases arise" explains the infectious doctor Dora Mantello, coordinator of the postgraduate course of Introduction to Anthroposophical Medicine that is dictated in the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNR and adds that "the proposals of anthroposophy are in relation to the use of plants, metals and minerals to harmonize what overflows."

– When does anthroposophic medicine arise?
– This medicine is brewing around 1920 at a time of great social movement, began the criticism of the industrial revolution and the negative effects on man, the criticism of the belief that everything was mechanical and material.

This medicine has a very important anchor in the biography of the person, in what is happening at different stages of life and also on how to resignify the pains so that life is healthier. To give a schematic example, Dora Mantello explains that “a child who has a trauma that causes a lot of anguish between 7 and 15 years of age can suffer some pathology that has to do with rhythms, something cardiac, or thyroid. Something that has to be accompanied and that cannot be done with rhythm ”.

Another important fact is the patient's free choice to meet his well-being, the will to transform. “What anthroposophy seeks with its medication is the process and not so much the substance. An antibiotic is pure substance and at some point you have to take it but if you want your own strength to move out of the darkness, according to the alchemist logic of anthroposophical medicine, surely you have to use gold, that substance diluted homeopathically. ”

Understanding the historical perspective was fundamental for Dr. Mantello, “when I started studying this medicine I was shocked by the spiritual with the material, the European with us, this led me to study the history of medicine and there I understood that there was another medicine in the world and in history before man was considered a machine, those medicines were taken by the Chinese, Greek, Egyptian, Guarani and Comechingones, that is, all the peoples of the world. All related man and nature and all related the material with the spiritual. Seeing that there was prior knowledge in that sense, and that it had been displaced, it was reassuring ”, it should be clarified that this medicine has an integrative aspect, it is not against traditional allopathic medicine.

Another contribution of Anthroposophy is the differentiation between the mental and the spiritual, “the first has to do with feeling, desires, passions and emotional needs. The spirit allows us to reflect, take a position, subtle that. That is also implied in our body. Feeling, thinking, understanding and feeling from the mood. ”

Anthroposophy and Cancer

“Anthroposophy has some answers to work with cancer, when the person is going to have surgery or has to perform some chemotherapy there are some medications, such as viscum, that help your body to be more harmonious to accompany this process, which is to receive chemotherapy that attacks normal and neoplastic cells. That is one way. ”
