César Solórzano, vice president of the Assembly, received Mauricio Claver-Carone, director of affairs of the Western Hemisphere of the US National Security Council on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
According to the legislator, it was a protocol appointment, in which they addressed general issues. Assistant Deputy President Donald Trump "was placed under the orders of the Assembly" to continue strengthening bilateral relations with the US, said Solórzano.
The vice president of the Legislature said that the scope of the cooperation agreement for air surveillance between Ecuador and the United States, which will be investigated by the Assembly, was not discussed.
On Monday, January 13, Claver-Carone also met with the President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, with whom he addressed issues such as support for democracy and the promotion of human rights in the Americas. He also held an audience with the Chancellor, José Valencia. "We strengthen economic relations and binational cooperation," President Moreno wrote on Twitter.
In addition, Claver -Carone participated in an audience with representatives of the Ecuadorian-American Chamber of Commerce to present the Washington-led economic growth initiative for the Western Hemisphere, called América Crece.
"We reaffirm the commitment to work in coordination in the fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism and seek the best financing to strengthen our economy," Solorzano wrote on Twitter.
