Atlanta United Signs Lisandro López

ATLANTA (AP) – Atlanta United announced the signing of Argentine striker Lisandro López with the aim of strengthening its attack.

The MLS club made official on Monday the acquisition of the 37-year-old from the Racing Club of the Argentine league.

In an 18-year career, “Licha” López has scored 244 goals in 603 games for clubs from Argentina, Portugal, France, Qatar and Brazil. He also has seven appearances with the Argentina team.

“Lisandro is an experienced scorer who will reinforce our attack,” said Atlanta United sports director Carlos Bocanegra. “We believe it will be a positive influence on our young roster.”

United are coming off a forgotten season in which they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their four-year history. They will seek to recover with the return of Venezuelan striker Josef Martínez, who missed most of the 2020 season with a knee injury.
