BERLIN (AP) – It may take a few days for the European Union to decide whether to grant a postponement for the British exit from the bloc, the German Economy Minister said on Monday.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reluctantly sent a letter requesting an extension beyond October 31, after the British Parliament put the brakes on its efforts to approve a new divorce agreement in time for the deadline.
The Johnson government will try to get a vote on the deal this week, German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said on the Deutschlandfunk radio station.RELATED
"We will have some more clarity in the coming days, and then we will exercise our responsibility and make a quick decision," he said.
The minister said he would not have problems with an extension of “a few days or a few weeks” if that prevents Brexit without agreement.
