Bumgarner Dominates As Diamondbacks Sweep Phillies

PHOENIX (AP) – Madison Bumgarner limited the Phillies to one hit in the first seven innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Philadelphia 6-2 on Thursday night to sweep the three-game series.

Bumgarner (7-7) continued his streak of great pitching from last month, when he came off the disabled list. Jean Segura opened the game with a double to left field, but never advanced, and Bumgarner didn’t allow another hit until Ronald Torreyes doubled in the eighth inning.

During his eight-inning run, Bumgarner allowed three hits and one run. Arizona, the worst team in the National League, finished its home run 6-1.

Bumgarner threw 105 pitches, walked one, struck out five and hit two opponents.

He also hit a broken bat single that produced one of five runs for the Diamondbacks in the seventh inning off Zack Wheeler (10-8). Nick Ahmed and Josh VanMeter fired two-touchdown doubles in the inning.

For the Phillies, Segura 5-1 with an RBI. Venezuelan Torreyes 4-2 with one scored and one produced.

For the Diamondbacks, Venezuelan David Peralta 4-1 with a run scored.
