The Generalitat de Catalunya is studying the closure of bars and restaurants for 15 days, El Periódico de Catalunya has advanced and elDiario.es has been able to confirm. It will be one of the measures that the Generalitat will discuss with the affected sectors before approving new restrictions on Wednesday to try to contain the spread of the virus.
With the new restrictions in bars and restaurants, the Generalitat seeks to reduce mobility and social interaction after detecting that most of the positives are infected in meetings or encounters with family and friends. The transmission of the virus has accelerated exponentially –only in Barcelona the positives have grown by 55% in the last week– and all Catalan health regions present a high or very high risk of regrowth.RELATED
The Barcelona Restoration Guild already considered this noon that it was “inadmissible” for the Government to consider more restrictions on bars and restaurants to contain the expansion of the coronavirus and criticized that the sector could be “stigmatized”.
In addition to the restrictions in the restoration, the Catalan universities will give the theoretical classes electronically from this Thursday to reduce the number of students on campus. Non-professional sports competitions have also been suspended for the next two weekends. And the Government has made a general appeal to companies to reinstate teleworking during the next 15 days.
The new measures, which the Government wants to approve this Wednesday to come into force on Friday, must be validated by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC). In the outbreak of last July, the judges overthrew the order to close bars and restaurants in the metropolitan area of Barcelona at midnight, although later they endorsed the 50% capacity restriction – which is still in force – inside the premises approved by the Government. In the terraces today there is no limited capacity, although in theory safety distances should be kept, something that does not always happen.
