Confirm The First Death By Coronavirus In California

California authorities confirmed on Wednesday the first death related to the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Health officials in Northern California said the fatal victim was an old man who had other health conditions. They said he died Wednesday at a hospital in Roseville, where he was isolated.

The man was probably exposed to the virus that causes Covid-19 while traveling in February on a Princess cruise ship from San Francisco to Mexico, authorities said in a statement.

For its part, the Washington State Department of Health published updated figures on Wednesday morning, showing that nine people died from the virus in King County, the most populous state, and one more person in the county of Snohomish

So far the state of Washington has reported 39 cases of Covid-19, all in the greater Seattle area.

Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington said Sunday they had evidence that the Covid-19 virus may have been circulating in the state for up to six weeks without being detected. If confirmed, that could mean that there are hundreds of undiagnosed cases in the area.
