Cowboys Prevent Eagles From Securing NFC 1st Berth

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott takes to the podium after helping the Dallas rally beat the Eagles. He quickly referenced the biggest reason the Cowboys had to react in the game.

“Let’s start with interceptions,” the star quarterback said before reporters asked questions.

Prescott threw for 347 yards and three scores after Josh Sweat made that interception and run into the end zone. Brett Maher scored his goal on the go-ahead field as the Cowboys beat Philadelphia 40-34 on Saturday.

Gardner Minshew completed two touchdown passes, ran a touchdown, and filled in for an injured Jalen Hurts. However, the second shipment in which the Cowboys intercepted him set the table for Maher’s field goals that put the final numbers on the scoreboard.

Four days after speaking at the funeral of college coach Mike Leach, Minshew pulled Philadelphia to within 19 yards for the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds.

But his desperate drive into the zone promised at 4-10 didn’t even come close to the receivers.

The NFL leaders (13-2) scored two turnovers in the final five minutes and missed a chance to claim the top seed in the NFC. It was a duel between two Eastern Division teams who qualified for the playoffs.

“I missed my chance,” Minshew said. “The ball can’t be turned over four times by him. We always stress that we shouldn’t give the ball. Not doing so has made us successful.”

Dallas, the previous season’s champions of the East, kept alive their few chances to defend their title.

Another win for Philadelphia in the final two games or an 11-4 loss for Dallas would secure home field advantage for the Eagles in the NL playoffs.
