EAGAN – The Minnesota Vikings hired the experienced NFL coach Dom Capers on Monday as a senior defensive assistant for an experienced group.
Capers, 69, will start his 33rd season as a coach in the league, after serving last year as a senior defensive assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Capers was an NFL head coach for eight seasons, with the Carolina Panthers (1995-98) and Houston Texans (2002-05). He was defensive coordinator for four clubs, totaling 16 campaigns, with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1992-94), Jacksonville (1999-2000), Miami Dolphins (2006-07) and Green Bay Packers (2009-17). Capers will help defensive co-coordinators Andre Patterson (defensive line) and Adam Zimmer (linebackers), who also lead a positional group.
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer promoted Gary Kubiak last month to offensive coordinator. Kubiak, 58, will begin his N ° 25 season as an NFL coach in 2020. Zimmer, Kubiak and Capers have a combined 24-season in the league as head coaches, and a total of 42 seasons in the NFL as offensive or defensive coordinators.RELATED
