President Andrés Manuel López Obrador hit and was hit by his counterpart, Donald Trump, during his visit this Wednesday, July 8 at the White House.
As part of the tour for the Treaty between Mexico, United States and Canada (T-MEC), López Obrador gave the US president a baseball bat with Huichol art, and he also gave him a bat, but in red.RELATED
In the image shared by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, both presidents are seen holding their presents inside a room in the White House, while maintaining a friendly dialogue in front of the members of the Mexican delegation.
“Exchange bats in the White House, baseball is a common space,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on his Twitter account.

The federal executive has repeatedly openly expressed his taste for the sport, and even last August 2019 he made the purchase of two baseball stadiums for 1,000 million pesos.
Then he announced that the “Héctor Espino” properties, located in Hermosillo and “Tomás Oroz Gaytán”, located in Ciudad Obregón, will be converted into baseball schools.
“They are going to be schools, they are entertainment projects, because stadiums are very well located, facilities are going to be built,” said the president at that time.
The first has a surface area of over 70,000 square meters and is valued at 475,024,000 pesos. The second has an area of 93,442 square meters and has an appraisal of 582,302,000 pesos.

Organization asked López Obrador not only to talk about baseball with Trump
“Use the work meetings not only to talk about baseball, but to discuss issues that concern us Mexicans,” said the organization Causa en Común in an open letter addressed to the Mexican president.
They asked that, since he ignored the recommendations that he not go to the United States, at least take advantage of the meeting to address issues of migration and security, defending the interests of Mexicans.

“I hope I take the opportunity to reformulate the issue of immigration so that the human rights of migrants and the right to security of Mexicans are no longer violated,” they said.
In addition, they urged that the crisis surrounding criminal gangs in the country be addressed, which continue to increase considerably, so this meeting could be beneficial if a bilateral collaboration agreement were made between the two nations.
They noted that another topic on the agenda should also be arms trafficking, which contributes to organized crime continuing to gain strength.
“The most urgent is the one that refers to the need for a real commitment on the part of President Donald Trump to influence the arms trade, which kills tens of thousands of Mexicans every year. We know that of the weapons that enter the country each year, 70% come from the American armories, “they detailed.

However, the international agency EFE pointed out that neither the issue of migrants, nor that of the border or that of the “dreamers”, undocumented youths who live in the United States and have a hopeful future there as students or practitioners, was touched upon. .
Alfonso Romo, head of the Presidential Office, confirmed to the agency that he only spoke about the T-MEC and about the challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the meeting in Washington this afternoon, López Obrador highlighted the friendship relationship with Donald Trump, despite the forecasts and criticism that some citizens had about the meeting this day.
“We have had a great relationship from the beginning and I think it was against all odds, many people were betting against it, but they learned not to bet against us,” said the Tabasco. “We are friends from the beginning and we will continue to be friends,” he added.
