The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Tuesday that he will designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorists for their role in drug trafficking and people.
“They will be appointed (…) I have been working on that for the past 90 days. You know, the designation is not that easy, you have to go through a process and we are well into that process, ”Trump said in an interview released Tuesday.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said Monday he did not expect the United States to do such a thing.RELATED
For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that Mexico will not accept direct intervention by the United States in the event that the country lists drug cartels as terrorist groups.
“Our problems are going to be solved by Mexicans. We don't want the interference of any foreign power. There is self-determination of the people, we are not selling country, ”he said in his morning conference.
