WASHINGTON.- US President Donald Trump donated his third-quarter salary to help combat the national opioid addiction epidemic.
A White House official said on Tuesday that Trump handed over the $ 100,000 that would have been paid in the quarter to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health, which oversees federal offices and public health programs.
The White House said the funds will be dedicated "to continue the fight against the opioid crisis."RELATED
Trump has made the fight against the opioid crisis in the country a priority on his agenda. More than 70,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2017, mostly from opioids.
Trump has to receive salary, but has promised to donate his to important causes. The president donated his second quarter salary to the public health director's office.
