Donald Trump Establishes The Sixth Autonomous Military Branch, The First Since 1947

The first American military branch in 73 years.

The law has a historical budget of 738,000 million dollars, although it is not specified how much it will be for the USSF, since it also includes salary increases to other branches and an increase in weeks for parental leave.

During the signing of this law and the establishment of the USSF, President Trump mentioned:

"Today marks another historic achievement by officially inaugurating the most recent branch of the army (the United States Space Force), this is a very big and important moment. It is a great moment and we are all here for it. Space. … a lot of things are going to happen in space, because space is the newest war domain in the world, there are serious threats to our national security, American superiority in space is absolutely vital. The Space Force will help us deter aggression and having broad control beyond our planet. "

According to the descriptions, the USSF will be responsible for "maintaining and improving the competitive advantage of the Department of Defense (DOD) in space, while adapting to new strategic challenges." It will be based in The Pentagon, as will the rest of the United States military branches.

"(The USSF) Organizes, trains and equips the space forces to protect the interests of the United States and its allies in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force. The responsibilities of the USSF include the development of military space professionals , the acquisition of space military systems, the maturation of the military doctrine for space power and the organization of space forces to present them to our Combat Commands. President Trump also appointed General Jay Raymond as the first chief of space operations, who will be the main military member and the first in this new branch.

Mark Esper, secretary of defense of the United States, declared:

"We are facing the birth of a new era for the armed forces of our nation. The establishment of the United States Space Force is a historic event and a strategic imperative for our nation. Space has become so important to our form of life, our economy and our national security that we must be prepared as a nation to protect it from hostile actions. "

For his part, Mark Milley, president of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, mentioned:

"In military operations, space is not only a place from which we support combat operations in other domains, but a domain of war in itself. Our adversaries are building and deploying capabilities to threaten us, so we can no longer take space for granted. The United States Space Force is the necessary and essential step our nation will take to defend our national interests in space today and in the future. "

The USSF will begin operations in 2020 and so far it is unknown what will be its first missions.
