Donald Trump said Monday that the US government has offered China and President Xi Jinping "whatever help is necessary" to contain the coronavirus, which continues to expand rapidly in China and other countries.
"We are in very close communication with China regarding the virus," the president wrote in his Twitter account. While he said that the cases reported on American soil are "very few," he stressed that they are under strict surveillance.
On the offer of assistance to the Chinese authorities, who have already begun to develop a vaccine, he highlighted the ability of American researchers: "Our experts are extraordinary!" He said.RELATED
This new strain has already contaminated more than 2,000 people and caused around 80 deaths.
For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) revised to "high" on Monday the risk of the coronavirus that emerged in China.
China hopes to defeat the virus. "As long as we have a firm confidence, let's work together – scientific prevention and treatments – with precise policies, we will surely be able to win the battle," said Xi, who called it a "serious situation."
But the virus expands and is already present on four continents. Europe recorded its first three cases on Friday, in three people living in France and who had recently been in Wuhan, epicenter of the new coronavirus, of the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) family, which in 2002-2003 killed 774 people all over the world.
