Donald Trump Surprises Soldiers In Afghanistan For Thanksgiving

President Donald Trump arrived on a surprise visit to Afghanistan to spend part of Thanksgiving with the American troops there.

Trump landed shortly after 8:30 p.m. (local time) and spent more than two and a half hours on the site. The press was asked to maintain the greatest confidentiality about the trip to ensure the safety of the President.

The visit comes more than two months after Trump broke the talks with the Taliban after a bombing in Kabul that killed 12 people, including an American soldier.

In addition, the event takes place at a peak time for Trump's presidency as the process of a possible political trial progresses in Washington.

The President, along with First Lady Melania Trump, made a similar trip last year to Iraq for Christmas night. They became the first presidential couple to visit an active conflict zone.
