CHICAGO, Illinois. – The first infection of coronavirus is recorded from person to person in the United States, as reported by health authorities in Illinois.
The patient is a Chicago resident married to a woman who became ill after returning from a trip to China, according to the AP news agency.
Chicago, Cook County and Illinois health officials say they are monitoring those who have been in contact with the woman.
“We have been preparing our communities for this situation,” Dr. Allison Arwady, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, told reporters after the second case was revealed in Chicago.
The health official told the media that there is no reason to alter the routine. He reiterated that this is not a local emergency.
The second case of coronavirus infection was confirmed in the United States on January 25.
Dr. Allison Arwady explained that it was a woman over 60, who was in stable condition.
Chicago health officials said the woman had little contact with people in the city, and they were already being monitored.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deployed staff in Illinois to provide assistance. To date, there are 21 cases in Illinois that are being investigated.
Thousands of people around the world have been infected by the coronavirus. In China, where the virus originated, it is where it is most affected by this disease.
