MEMPHIS, Tennessee, USA (AP) – Dillon Brooks scored 23 points, Jonas Valanciunas added 20 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks and the Memphis Grizzlies secured their place in the postseason mini-tournament by beating 115 on Monday. 110 to the Pelicans of New Orleans.
Kyle Anderson had 14 points and four blocks, while Ja Morant had 12 points and 12 assists.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker led a decimated Pelicans with 18 points, while Willy Hernangomez had 15 points and eight rebounds. James Johnson and Jaxson Hayes each scored 13 points.
The Pelicans did not have their top scorers Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Josh Hart, who is averaging 9.2 points and eight rebounds, and center Steven Adams also saw no action.
In addition, New Orleans was playing for the second night in a row after they came from behind to beat Charlotte on Sunday, making things difficult for them.
Similarly, New Orleans proved to be a problem for Memphis.
The Pelicans recovered a deficit at halftime by making 50% of their field goals in the first six minutes of the third period. Memphis barely missed one of its first 10 attempts in the period.
Morant, who didn’t have a good offensive day, scored eight straight points to bring Memphis closer to 88-86 into the fourth quarter.
Memphis eventually had a nine-point lead in the final minutes.
