Guerrero Leads To 46 Homers As Twins Beat Blue Jays

TORONTO (AP) – Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 46th home run of the season, the most in the majors, but it didn’t stop the Minnesota Twins from beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 on Friday night.

Jorge Polanco, Josh Donaldson and Miguel Sanó hit consecutive home runs for Minnesota.

The Blue Jays started the day tied with the Red Sox and Yankees in the bid for the first AL wild card. Toronto fell to 13-3 in September.

Guerrero hit a solo home run in the third inning to bring Toronto closer to 5-3. Before the game, the Dominican was tied with the Venezuelan Salvador Pérez, of Kansas City, as the home run leader of the campaign.

Dominican Michael Pineda (7-8) worked 5 2/3 innings to win his third straight start, allowing three runs and three hits. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA in September, following respective numbers of 0-3 and 5.88 in August.

Another Dominican, Jorge Alcalá worked one and a third innings, Tyler Duffey struck out all three of his opponents in the eighth inning and Alex Colomé finished the ninth, for Minnesota to achieve its second win in six games.

Left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu (13-9) did not survive the third act. He left after allowing four hits in a row.

For the Twins, the Dominicans Polanco 5-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, Sanó 4-1 with two runs scored and one RBI. Venezuelan Luis Arráez 4-0.

For the Blue Jays, the Dominican Guerrero 3-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Teoscar Hernández 3-0. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 4-1. Mexican Alejandro Kirk 1-0.
