PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Gordon Hayward made his first nine shots and had 30 points as the Charlotte Hornets beat the Philadelphia 76ers 109-98 on Wednesday, who had beaten them in the previous 16 meetings.

The Hornets hadn’t beaten the Sixers since November 2, 2016.

Hayward made all nine of her first-half shots, including four 3-pointers, for 22 points that helped Charlotte go into halftime ahead by 14 points.

He is the fourth player in Hornets history to have scored 20 or more points in the first half since the 1996-97 season. Hayward is averaging 17 points.

Terry Rozier scored 22 points for the Hornets, while Miles Bridges had 21.

Joel Embiid had 31 points for the fifth straight game, but the Sixers had a seven-game winning streak snapped.

The streak of the Cameroonian is one of the best in the history of the team. He has joined Allen Iverson and Wilt Chamberlain as the only 76ers players to post 30 points or more in eight straight games.
