BOGOTÁ (AP) – Independiente Medellín, seventh in the Colombian soccer league’s Apertura tournament, announced eight positive COVID-19 cases on Friday, including four players.
The affected soccer players are Miguel Monsalve, Jean Pineda, Juan Carlos Díaz and Víctor Moreno. Two members of the coaching staff, an assistant and a member of the press office also tested positive.
The club decided to isolate them and they remain with biosecurity measures, including their relatives.
The “Poderoso de la Montaña”, with Hernán Darío Gómez on the bench, appears in seventh place next to Jaguares de Montería with 20 points, three less than Deportes Tolima and Deportivo Cali – who share the command after 12 of 19 regular programming days.
Medellín will host Deportivo Pasto on Sunday and in addition to the four absences due to contagion, it will have another 11 due to injuries, it was confirmed on Friday.
