TEHRAN (AP) – Tehran will begin injecting uranium gas into 1,044 centrifuges, in a new step to distance itself from the nuclear deal since U.S. President Donald Trump has withdrawn from the agreement more than a year ago.
The president, Hasán Ruhani, made an appearance broadcast live by the Iranian state television.
According to the 2015 nuclear agreement, the machines had to operate without gas injection.RELATED
Ruhani said the centrifuges, which are at its nuclear center in Fordo, will begin receiving uranium gas injections starting Wednesday.
The International Atomic Energy Agency, the supervisory agency of the United Nations, did not comment at first.
Iran multiplied the number of IR-6 centrifuges it is running on Monday, breaking another clause of the nuclear pact.
