Liga MX President Announces He Is Infected With Coronavirus

Federal District, Mexico.

Enrique Bonilla, president of Liga MX (first division of Mexican soccer), announced on Friday that he is infected with coronavirus.

“I wish to communicate to you that after carrying out the pertinent studies on COVID-19 I have been positive,” Bonilla reported in a statement published on the Liga MX website.

“So far, despite the tests carried out, I have no serious symptoms and I will remain in quarantine as indicated by the authorities of the Ministry of Health,” said the leader of the Aztec football.

Bonilla is the second manager of Mexican soccer who has tested positive for coronavirus. On Tuesday, Atlético de San Luis, Liga MX club, announced that its president Alberto Marrero also has the disease.

Last Sunday, Liga MX announced the suspension of its Clausura-2020 tournament, as well as the championships corresponding to Ascenso MX (second division) and Liga MX Femenil.

This week, most Mexican soccer clubs, from the core forces to the first team, decided to cancel their group practice and ordered individual jobs at home.

On Friday night, the Mexican Health Secretariat reported that the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus patients increased to 203 and two deaths have been recorded.
