ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Nate Lowe hit a solo home run and rookie Kohei Arihara scored his first major league win, working through the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game, which the Texas Rangers won 5- 1 to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Arihara (1-1) allowed two singles and a double over 5 2/3 innings, in what was his third start since signing with the Rangers after six seasons with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of the Japan League. Peaceful.
Lowe, selected in the draft by the Rays and loaned to Texas through a deal agreed in December, was in the duel against his former teammate Josh Fleming (0-1).
The Rangers held on to a 1-0 lead until David Dahl hit a two-run double and Adolis Garcia added a triple that drove in another pair in the seventh inning.
The duel was then resolved. Fleming had allowed one run and four hits, with five strikeouts and no walks, but was replaced by John King with two outs in the fifth act.
For the Rangers, Cuban Garcia 4-2 with two RBIs. Dominican Leody Taveras 4-0.
For the Rays, Cubans Randy Arozarena 4-0, Yandy Díaz 4-2. The Dominicans Manuel Margot 4-2, Willy Adames 3-0.
