(WAB NEWS Spanish) – A suspected coronavirus patient is hospitalized at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases in Mexico City awaiting further tests to confirm it, said Hugo López-Gatell, deputy secretary of Health Prevention and Promotion of Mexico .
“We have a suspect patient of # COVID19, hospitalized in @RespiraINER,” López-Gatell said on Twitter, referring to the name by which the World Health Organization identifies the new coronavirus.RELATED
The official added that it is a “mild case” and that the patient has been put in isolation pending the analysis of a second sample.

In another tweet, López-Gatell indicated that the patient’s contacts are already studied and stressed that “the diagnosis is not definitive.”
He said that “as soon as the tests are finished we will announce its result.”
Meanwhile, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, gave a message on Thursday night about the preventive measures of the Mexican capital against the coronavirus.
In a video on his Twitter account in which he appears accompanied by the Secretary of Health of the Government of Mexico City, Oliva López Arellano, Sheinbaum said that since January 30, when the World Health Organization declared the emergence of Public health of international importance for the coronavirus, the Mexican authorities intensified the epidemiological surveillance actions.
For her part, Secretary López Arellano said that, so far, 23 suspected cases have been identified in Mexico, of which 22 have been ruled out and one is under study.
“The probability that there are cases in Mexico and in the city is high,” said López Arellano, who stressed that the important thing is to remain calm and be informed through official sources.
Recommendations to prevent coronavirus
The Secretary of Health of Mexico City gave some recommendations to prevent the spread of coronavirus:
Frequent hand washing and use of gel with alcohol
Tag sneeze, that is, at the inner arm angle
Do not touch face, nose, mouth or eyes with dirty hands
Clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces at home and office
Stay home when you have respiratory conditions
López Arellano said that if you have symptoms such as high fever, headache, sore throat, cough and runny nose it is important to call the doctor.
The officials called to stay informed and not spread rumors or false news.
