MLB Would Impose Live Video Limits For Teams

ORLANDO, Florida, USA (AP) – The Major League office intends to impose new limits on the types of live videos that are available to teams, and Commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday he hopes to conclude his investigation into the alleged electronic signal theft by the Boston Red Sox before the preseason camps begin next week. “I think they should assume that before the season starts there will be new guidelines regarding the use of video equipment,” Manfred said after a meeting of owners. “I think we have too much real-time video available today.” After Houston former whitener Mike Fiers revealed last November to The Athletic site that the Astros used a video camera to steal the signals from rival receivers during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Manfred suspended manager AJ Hinch and manager Jeff Luhnow last month for a season, imposed a $ 5 million fine on the team and stripped him of his first and second round picks for the 2020 drafts and 2021.Hinch and Luhnow were fired that same day, and the scandal resulted in the exits of Boston manager Alex Cora _ who was a Houston banking coach during the 2017 campaign in which they won the World Series _ and the strategist of the New York Mets Carlos Beltrán, who was an Astros player in that season. MLB also investigates a separate accusation that the Red Sox violated the rules. About the theft of signals in 2018, when Cora led Boston to the title in his first campaign as a manager. “I hope he can end the Boston theme before the camps begin,” Manfred said. The pre-season training starts on Wednesday. Manfred did not sanction any Houston player and said Red Sox players will not be punished either. But he left open the possibility of imposing disciplinary measures for future infractions. “We have the right to discipline players at this time. I am absolutely convinced of that fact, ”he said. “We made the decision in the Houston investigation that in order to get the facts we needed, someone had to get immunity.”
