New Cases Of COVID-19 Confirmed In Ecuador And Chile

QUITO (AP) – Ecuador’s health authorities confirmed on Wednesday another three cases of the new coronavirus, which amounted to 10 in that country. In Chile, meanwhile, there was a second – the wife of the first infected, who was already discharged – and later a third: a 56-year-old woman who traveled through several European countries, including northern Italy.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health reported that the three new infected people make up the family nucleus of the first patient, an Ecuadorian who is more than 70 years old and lives in Spain who arrived in Guayaquil on February 14 and is in critical condition.

The three new patients were already in home isolation. Of a hundred people who had contact with the first patient and who were part of an epidemiological siege, 77 were already discharged.

Meanwhile, Marlene Durán, ministerial secretary of Health of Talca, in Chile, said that a young woman – who is the pediatrician’s wife who was the first case registered in the country – has also been diagnosed COVID-19.

She added that the woman “is in a very good state of health” and that she will soon be discharged to, like her husband, continue in isolation at home.

Chilean Health Minister Jaime Mañalich reported that about 80 people who were close to marriage 65 were already contacted.

The doctor and his wife returned to Chile on February 25 after a month of vacation in Southeast Asia. From Santiago they traveled 256 kilometers in a bus of the interurban transport until arriving at their residence.

The man showed symptoms on Sunday and the woman was admitted on Wednesday morning with milder symptoms than her husband’s, Durán said.

Mañalich ruled out, for the moment, the suspension of the Lollapalooza music festival that will take place at the end of the month and that brings together tens of thousands of people during each of its three days.

On the same Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry of Health confirmed a third case in Chile. The patient who traveled through northern Italy presented symptoms of the new virus and went to a private clinic the day before. The Public Health Institute confirmed the infection today.

It was added that the woman was discharged and will fulfill privacy in her home.

In recent days they confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Worldwide, more than 90,000 people have become ill and around 3,100 have died. The epidemic affects almost 80 countries on all continents.
