Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey suffered an ankle injury on a seven-yard touchdown run with 13:30 to play in a 31-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McCaffrey, who did not return to the field for the remainder of the game, had 19 runs and two TDs with four receptions for 29 yards when he suffered the injury.
After scoring, McCaffrey left the field with a noticeable limp and despite having his right ankle bandaged, the running back and eighth overall pick in the 2017 draft did not return to the game.
Mike Davis finished the duel as Carolina’s leading running back.
McCaffrey is coming off a 2019 season in which he became the third player in NFL history with 1,000 rushing yards and receptions in a season.
