New York.- An off-duty sergeant of the New York police who shot a personal trainer inside his house had been arguing with the man, who was alone at home with the policeman's wife moments before, according to police and sources.
The 34-year-old sergeant, identified by sources such as Justin Ellis, was placed in modified service after Friday's meeting at his Nassau County house in Seaford, according to police.
Apparently, Ellis came home just after midnight to find the 29-year-old personal trainer inside, according to police and sources. "He told the guy to leave his house," a police source told The Post.RELATED

Ellis, who works at the 103rd Precinct in Queens, told police that the man attacked him with the bat, police said. No charges have been filed in the incident.
Tarzan actor's wife, is killed by her own son
The wife of the former actor in the "Tarzan" series, Ron Ely, was slashed at his house in southern California by his son, who was shot dead by police outside the scene, authorities said.
Agents who came to the home due to a 911 call found Valerie Lundeen Ely, 62, lifeless with multiple knife wounds, shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, Santa Barbara County Police said in a release.
Agents identified the couple's son, Cameron Ely, 30, as the suspect, and found him outside the house after a search, the statement said.
Cameron Ely posed an unidentified threat to the agents, four of whom opened fire and killed him, according to authorities.
Ron Ely, 81, played the famous character in the NBC series "Tarzan" that was broadcast from 1966 to 1968.
No media reported that the actor had suffered any injuries. Police said in previous communiqués that an old man who was in the house was taken for evaluation to a hospital.
Ron Ely was host of the Miss America contest in 1980 and 1981; He later married Valerie Ely, former Miss Florida. The couple had three children.
