The Senate has a Republican majority, its leaders have recently expressed their intention to vote against the accusations

The investigations that led to the trial began after an anonymous whistleblower reported that Donald Trump was using his power as US president to request a "favor" from Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.
The favor in question was to investigate the son of former Vice President and Candidate Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, regarding his work at Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company.
Now Trump has become the third president in American history to be taken to political trial, the first being Andrew Jonhson in 1868 and the second being the controversial case of Bill Clinton in 1998.
