President Donald Trump Would Exclude Migrants From The United States Census

United States President Donald Trump may soon enact a decree that would prohibit undocumented immigrants from being included in the 2020 census count of people living in the United States, a source familiar with the matter said Friday.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not have the details of the executive order.

The government census count helps determine where taxpayers’ money is spent to build public facilities such as schools, hospitals, and fire departments, as well as to calculate state representation in the House of Representatives.

Last year, Trump scrapped to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census after the Supreme Court ruled against the government, which had said the new citizenship data would help better enforce the Voting Rights Act, which protects minority rights.

The court ruled that the basis was “artificial”.
