Half Moon Bay, California – A man from Northern California won first place in the 46th annual Safeway contest for the heaviest pumpkin, and set a mark with the largest pumpkin in the state.
Leonardo Ureña, from Napa, took the first prize of $ 15,000 with his 2,175-pound pumpkin.
The spokeswoman for the fair, Timothy Beeman, said that Urena is the second largest pumpkin in the history of the contest. Two years ago a pumpkin from the state of Washington weighed almost 2,400 pounds and took first prize in Half Moon Bay.RELATED
Ureña, 51, said he started growing pumpkins in 2000. He also won the Half Moon Bay contest in 2011.
Ureña said he always tells his pumpkins that he is proud of them and encourages them to continue growing.
