Washington. – The director of the National Institute on Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, considered tonight that deciding when the United States will leave behind the coronavirus emergency is a matter that must be decided “week by week and day by day”.
“You have to be very flexible,” Fauci said, in the briefing by the White House working group that tracks the emergency.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he wants the United States to return to normal by April 12, on the occasion of Easter.RELATED
“I think it is a precious moment, a great day,” said Trump, when asked why he has proposed that day.
Fauci argued that at Tuesday’s White House meeting they discussed Trump’s interest in “reopening” economic operations in the US, but insisted that the emergency of the pandemic decisions can be made by area. “We need to look at the data,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator of the working group, recommended that anyone who has recently been in New York be placed in quarantine, as a precautionary measure.
Nearly half of the more than 52,000 cases of coronavirus in the United States have been detected in New York.
