De Niro, who won the award from Leonardo DiCaprio, began his speech by praising the work of SAG to defend the interpreters, something, according to the actor, especially valuable in times "of great hostility against the unions."

“Political leaders who support unions are more likely to support health reform (from 2010, known as Obamacare), fair taxes, human regulation of migration, a safe environment, a diverse citizenship, reproductive rights, sensible controls of firearms, and fair wages, ”he listed.

"We owe them our support and our vote," he added.

De Niro is one of the most blunt and stubborn voices in Hollywood against US President Donald Trump, and said, not to mention, that the current situation is "urgent" and "very worrying."

“There is right and wrong, there is common sense and abuse of power. As a citizen, I have as much right as anyone, an actor, an athlete, a musician or whoever, to express my opinion. And if I have a stronger voice because of my situation, I will use it every time I see a flagrant abuse of power, ”he said.

In a more comedic tone, De Niro was delighted that his next film project is with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie Killers of the Flower Moon and joked that this film will guarantee at least one more year of medical insurance .
