HOUSTON (AP) – Eric Gordon and Christian Wood each scored 23 points and the Houston Rockets beat the New Orleans Pelicans 118-108 on Sunday night for their sixth win.
Brandon Ingram had his best record of the season with 40 points for the Pelicans – his best since 40 points against Brooklyn on November 4, 2019. Jonas Valanciunas finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but New Orleans suffered his third loss in last five games.RELATED
Houston’s Daniel Theis had 12 points on four of six shots from the field, and Alperen Sengun finished with 10 points.
New Orleans cut Houston’s eight-point gap at halftime to five with 10:48 to play in the third quarter, but Gordon took it upon himself to extend the gap to double digits by scoring 13 points for the Rockets in a lapse of 3:46 minutes and put the board 72-61.
In the fourth quarter, KJ Martin ignited the Houston crowd with a reverse dunk that extended the Rockets’ lead to 98-87.
Garrison Matthews, who had not scored since the second quarter, hit a triple from the corner with 18.1 seconds left to make the final score of 118-108.
