Russia Attacks Kyiv Again With Drones Hours After Power Was Restored

The Russian army has launched a new drone attack this morning on the city of kyiv and some points in the region. The attack came just hours after local authorities had restored the heating system destroyed in previous bombings.

“The enemy is attacking the capital with [drones] Shahed”, the Military Administration of the capital has assured on Telegram. Russia has been using Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones to attack kyiv since September. “The air defense is working. At this time, nine enemy UAVs have been shot down in kyiv airspace.”


According to the Ukrainska Pravda media, there have been two “powerful explosions” in the central area of ​​kyiv and it is possible that the anti-aircraft defense systems were operating to reach the Russian drones. “The anti-aircraft defense is working,” the Military Administration has confirmed. “Nine enemy UAVs have been shot down in kyiv airspace.”

The authorities, according to these sources, made an appeal overnight for citizens to remain in their shelters until the anti-aircraft alerts stopped sounding.

The mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, has confirmed several explosions in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, and has assured that all the emergency services are already working in the affected places. Fires have broken out in some of the areas attacked.

Klitschko, who this Sunday had confirmed the restoration of the heating system throughout the city, has assured that, for the moment, there have been no victims.

Meanwhile, Serhiy Popko, head of the Military Administration of the city of kyiv, has reported that the anti-aircraft defense forces shot down a total of 15 Iranian-made drones this morning over the capital.

According to the military command, Russia has attacked kyiv in two phases: an initial one that lasted about three hours and a later one that lasted about 25 minutes.

“The capital withstood several waves of Iranian-made Shahed attacks,” said the head of the Military Administration. “More than 20 enemy drones were detected in kyiv airspace. The air defense forces have destroyed about 15”.

According to provisional data provided by Popko, a critical infrastructure facility has been “hit” during the attack. “Emergency services deal with the aftermath. Information about casualties and destruction is being confirmed.”
