The center of the country was filled with storms, from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes, facing the Arctic front that according to meteorologists could generate historical cold. A thick layer of snow has caused problems in northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and more than 200 flights have been canceled at Chicago's international airports.
