The SCIENTIFIC BITES training program is now available, promoted by SOLTI, an academic research group in Oncology. It is a new e-learning platform in precision medicine applied to Oncology aimed at all professionals involved in cancer management: medical oncologists, pathologists, translational researchers, molecular biologists, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, oncology nursing and other specialties medical and surgical.
Precision medicine is the new paradigm that is permeating the approach to oncological disease and therefore, “SCIENTIFIC BITES will provide updated knowledge of the specialty and will contextualize it with advances in molecular biology, genetics and genomics”, said the president of SOLTI, Aleix Prat, Head of the Medical Oncology Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and Director of the Chair of Innovation in Precision Oncology at the UB.
The SCIENTIFIC BITES program addresses, with a dynamic audiovisual format and multidisciplinary approach, different current scientific issues that respond to unmet medical needs in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. As a documentary support, each thematic block has downloadable materials and video capsules with scientific presentations and discussions with lead ing experts on the topics covered. “In addition, and to ensure the achievement of the training objectives of the participants, the platform offers the possibility of carrying out a self-assessment of the knowledge acquired to ensure their achievement,” added Prat.
One of the priorities of the program is to involve new generations of specialists in cancer research and continuing education, as well as to encourage scientific talents through an attractive training activity in design, innovative in format and with content.
updated. In this new era of precision medicine, “oncologists and all specialists involved in cancer management need to have knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, genomics and the development of new therapies in order to make the best decisions regarding diagnosis, treatment and conducting clinical trials and translational research ”concluded Dr. Prat.
The SCIENTIFIC BITES Platform is presented with a simple design with the intention of facilitating access to the content by selecting the essential information, classifying it in small capsules or BITES.
Each BITE addresses a topic in a structure of 4 or 5 modules, which is proposed and coordinated by a member of the Scientific Committee of the SCIENTIFIC BITES program based on a medical need arising from clinical experience and / or a plausible hypothesis formulated by the scientific community.
The format is audiovisual and the training begins with a video of approximately 10-15min, which contains a theoretical presentation by an expert in the field and a subsequent discussion in a peer-to-peer format, between the teacher and a an expert colleague who, from a different point of view, knows the same field.
The platform provides supporting documentary material in PDF format, very useful for studying or using the data.
