Spain Registers More Cured Than New Patients Of COVID-19

MADRID (AP) – For the first time since the coronavirus arrived in Spain, the number of people cured exceeded that of new infections, authorities said on Friday.

They specified that 2,796 new infections were registered in the last 24 hours, while 3,105 patients were cured.

“With all the efforts we have made, the evolution of the epidemic obviously begins to be where it should be,” said the coordinator of the emergency center of the Ministry of Health, Fernando Simón.

Spain recorded 367 new coronavirus deaths for a total of 22,524 and the government is studying how to end a strict quarantine that has lasted for more than 40 days.

In the next few hours, health officials from the 17 regions of Spain and the central government will analyze proposals to gradually resume economic activity. Authorities have said the process will depend on how the regions meet certain health criteria.
