(CNN) – The severe stormy weather that moved through Alabama on Wednesday night has left a path of destruction.

Authorities say there is damage in Winfield and that “downtown Winfield is a dangerous area,” according to a message from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.


“The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the city of Winfield with the damage caused by the s torm. We urge civilians not to enter the city of Winfield. Downtown Winfield is a dangerous area and multiple agencies are in the scene. Downed power lines have been confirmed. Please stay out of the area, “the sheriff’s office said.

The Winfield Police Department also warned people to stay away from the city center.

“DO NOT GO CLOSE TO THE CITY CENTER !!! This is not a request. We have people working diligently to clear the center of the city and make sure everyone is safe,” the Police Department said. Winfield in a post on his Facebook page.

The Birmingham bureau of the National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a tornado warning for Marion County last night.

From his Twitter account the NWS Birmingham He said: “This storm has probably already produced at least one brief tornado south of Guin to near Winfield.”

Winfield is approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Birmingham.
