The Arab League criticized on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 the US plan to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and denounced a “violation” of the rights of the Palestinians.
The proposal, announced Tuesday in Washington by US President Donald Trump in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, makes concessions to Israel but was rejected by the Palestinians.
“We carefully study the US perspective and are open to all serious efforts in favor of peace,” Arab League secretary general Ahmed Abul Gheit said Wednesday.RELATED
However, in a statement, he considered that “a preliminary reading of the plan shows a significant violation of the legitimate rights of the Palestinians.”
Among other controversial points, the US plan includes the annexation by Israel of the colonies implanted in the occupied West Bank since 1967, particularly in the Jordan Valley which, according to the proposal, would become the eastern border of Israel.
