Mexico, Nov 12 (EFE) .- The resigning president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, denounced on Tuesday that in his country "the most artful and disastrous coup in history" took place, reacting to the proclamation of opposition senator Jeanine Áñez as interim president of the South American country.
"The most artful and disastrous coup in history has been consummated. A coup-right senator calls herself president of the senate and then interim president of Bolivia without a legislative quorum, surrounded by a group of accomplices and coached by the FFAA (Armed Forces) and Police that repress the people, "Morales wrote on Twitter.RELATED
He denounced "before the international community" that the "self-proclamation of a senator as president" violates the Bolivian Constitution and the internal norms of the Legislative Assembly.
He added that the proclamation "is consummated on the blood of brothers killed by police and military forces used for the coup."
In subsequent messages, Morales said that the proclamation violates articles 161, 169 and 410 of the Political Constitution of the State, concerning the approval or rejection of a presidential resignation, the succession over presidencies of the Legislature and the supremacy of the constitutional text itself.
"Bolivia suffers an assault on the power of the people," Morales said, and lashed out at former president Carlos Mesa, his main rival in the October 20 elections. "Carlos de Mesa tramples the Political Constitution of the State, destroys democracy and massacres the people. That is your legacy for history," he wrote.
He also whipped the civic leader Luis Fernando Camacho, contrary to Morales, who said that "regional pride is not to divide Bolivia, the Bible is not used to send Bolivians to kill and the State Constitution is not to burn institutions. Stop destroying Bolivia. "
On Tuesday, Áñez assumed the interim Presidency of Bolivia in a parliamentary session with the absence of the representatives of the official Socialist Movement Movement (MAS).
"I immediately assume the Presidency of the State," proclaimed the senator of the Democratic Union. Before assuming the head of state on an interim basis, Áñez was appointed president of the Senate, chamber of which she was one of the vice presidents.
The Bolivian Constitution establishes that in the absence of the head of state assumes the Presidency, in this order, the vice president of the country, the president of the Senate and that of Congress. All these charges had resigned after having announced last Sunday his departure from power Evo Morales.
Evo Morales arrived in Mexico on Tuesday, a country that has opened his arms, appealing to his historical tradition of asylum.
"Thanks to Mexico and its authorities. I also want to tell you, brothers and sisters, that as long as I have life, we remain in politics. As long as I have life, the struggle continues," Morales said as soon as he touched down from the Mexico City airport, who arrived aboard a Mexican military plane.
Morales, who resigned on Sunday from the Bolivian Presidency suggested by the military, thanked Mexico and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador twice for saving his "life" with his decision to give him political asylum after the crisis unleashed in Bolivia by the Allegations of alleged electoral fraud.
And he attacked the "coup d'etat" he lived in his country after his "triumph" in the elections of October 20. EFE
