The Service Of Functional Medicine Of Quirónsalud Málaga, Awarded For An Innovative Method On Pain

MÁLAGA, 11 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Functional Medicine Unit of the Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga has received the 2020 Business Excellence Award, awarded by the Institute for Professional Excellence, for the creation and implementation of the Teryos method, an innovative procedure for diagnosis and treatment of pain, available , exclusively, in this malaugñeo health center and in the Biotronic Salud Clinical Center, in Granada.

“This method opens new options to medicine, by developing and applying new biomedical technologies in the field of diagnosis, evaluation, control and treatment of functional capacity and pain, the main obstacle to improving health and health. functionality, “said Dr. Carlos de Teresa, head of the Functional Medicine Unit.

This device “allows to achieve excellent clinical results, by facilitating a diagnosis and earlier treatment of complex pain processes, so far not detectable or clinically treatable with precision, as well as the stimulation of physiological responses that clearly improve the functional capacity of patients and , all this, in a non-invasive way and without side effects, “said the doctor.

“That it does not have side effects, it gives solution to those people who cannot take certain pain medications because of the adverse effects that it produces in their health,” said Dr. Susana Ríos, clinical director of the Functional Medicine Unit, who has added that it is possible to reverse the patient’s pain picture, “allowing a better rest, a more restful sleep and a more active life”.

PHASES OF THE METHOD

The Teryos Method (Therapeutic Target Non-Invasive Stimulation) is developed through four phases in which the alterations of variables that interfere with functional improvement are evaluated in a phased and progressive manner.

Aspects such as the presence of pain, peripheral and central neurological sensitization, coordination disorders, strength and neuromuscular resistance are examples of the milestones studied in this process.

This procedure consists of four phases and each phase ends when it is evidenced, by means of functional diagnostic tests, the normalization of the responses of the therapeutic targets on which it has acted selectively in said phase.

The first phase, desensitization, is the first step in functional improvement, which consists in the diagnosis and treatment of sensory sensitization and peripheral and central neurological sensitization processes, which determine pain conditions and dysfunctional neuromuscular activation patterns.

Once the sensitization sensitization processes have been modulated, the analgesia phase can be approached, the treatment of pain conditions, especially of the neuropathic type in the most chronicized processes. The third phase is that of neuromuscular coordination.

The control of sensitization and pain processes facilitates the stimulation of physiological neuromuscular activation patterns, something that, as indicated by Quirónsalud, can be done through mechanotransduction, neurological activation and neuromuscular stimulation, through the use of biotechnological devices and of conscious muscle activation. The fourth phase of the Teryos Method comprises a physical exercise program.

The purpose of Functional Medicine is the adequate and sufficient practice of physical exercise to improve variables such as aerobic capacity or strength. The prescription of exercise should be based on “the search for precise stimuli that contribute to the improvement of physical fitness and, in particular, of aerobic or endurance capacity and strength,” said Dr. Carlos de Teresa.

According to the specialist, physical exercise should be prescribed, according to modality, intensity, frequency and duration, “in order to improve the main responses necessary for health maintenance: antioxidant capacity, anti-inflammatory, vascular endothelial function, receptor sensitivity insulin or beta-adrenergic and neuroplasticity. “
