Tigres Defeats Juárez And Remains In Play-off Zone

MEXICO CITY (AP) – Uruguayan forward Nicolás López signed a double, including the difference goal on Wednesday night and Tigres defeated Ciudad Juárez 3-2 to stay within the reclassification zone to the league for the title of the Mexican Clausura tournament.

Uruguayan Nicolás López put the university team ahead in the 70th minute and converted the winning goal at 88, while Diego Reyes added another score at 86 for the university team, who had fallen last week.

Paraguayans William Mendieta at 75 and Víctor Velázquez at 79 scored for the Braves.

The match was pending for the fifth date, which Tigres postponed to be able to play the Club World Cup.

With the result, Tigres now has 18 points and is placed in ninth position with three dates remaining on the regular schedule.

The Braves remain with 12 units in the penultimate position of the table among 18 teams.

In addition, Ciudad Juárez remains third to last in the table of averages that defined the decline and that now condemns the last three teams to pay a financial fine.

If the Braves do not move from that position, they will have to pay 50 million pesos (about 2.5 million dollars).

In Mexico, the best four teams advance directly to the league and the next eight meet in a play-off round to complete the quarterfinals.
