OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Mike Trout drove in three runs and made a key catch late in the game as the Los Angeles Angels beat the cut Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Saturday night. a nine-game winning streak at home.
Trout, a three-time AL MVP, dived to capture a liner off Matt Olson’s bat into center field early in the eighth inning.
Amazed and grateful, reliever Ty Buttrey clapped his glove for Trout. He ended up getting six outs to score his second save.
Anthony Rendón extended his hitting streak to 12 games for the Angels, who snapped a four-game losing streak with their second win in the last 10 games.
Matt Andriese (1-1) relieved starter Griffin Canning in the fifth act and resolved 2 1/3 chapters for his first win with the Angels.
Ramón Laureano scored early on, thanks to Olson’s double in the fifth inning, to put the score at 4-3, but the Athletics couldn’t mount a decisive attack this time and had their three-game winning streak snapped.
