Will Elon Musk Allow Trump Back On Twitter

Elon Musk said on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account will not be back up and running before next week’s midterm elections in the US. This answers one of the biggest questions about what would happen after he bought the networking company. social.

Elon Musk said that he will undo the permanent block that Twitter put on the account of former U.S. President Donald Trump after the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

Musk said Wednesday morning, “Twitter will not let anyone back on the platform who was removed for breaking Twitter’s rules until we have a clear way to do so, which will take at least a few more weeks.”

During a remote interview for a conference put on by the Financial Times newspaper, the current head of Tesla said that the decision to ban Trump was a big mistake.

The billionaire who owns Twitter said before that he would start a “content moderation council” and that until that council was set up, no big decisions about content would be made.

“I do not agree with banning Donald Trump. Musk said, “I think that was a mistake because it turned off a lot of people and did not stop Donald Trump from having a voice. Now he is going to be on Truth Social, along with a lot of people on the right in the US.”

The South African billionaire said that there should only be permanent account lockouts for bots and spam, because “there is no reason to hold them accountable.” He also said that his friend Jack Dorsey, who started Twitter, agrees with him that “permanent bans are a failure and do not work,” preferring instead temporary bans and other punishments for illegal content.

Before buying Twitter last week, Musk promised to change at least some of the rules about how content is moderated and get rid of permanent account bans. He had also said that he would bring back Trump’s personal account, which had been taken away soon after the uprising at the US Capitol on January 6.

Trump is not yet back on Twitter, because Musk said that the deal to buy the social network for 44 billion dollars (USD) is not yet done. Even if Twitter lets him back in, it is not certain that Donald Trump will want to come back. The former president of the United States recently said that he plans to keep using his own Truth Social app.

Elon Musk’s comments make people wonder how open the social network will become now that he owns it. If Trump gets elected again, Twitter would have to unban a long list of accounts, including those of conspiracy theorists, people who do not believe in Covid-19, followers of white extremist groups like QAnon, neo-Nazis, and others who have been accused of spreading hate speech, racist comments, and discrimination.

Kirsten Martin, a professor of technology ethics at the University of Notre Dame in the US, told the AP, “Musk only seems to care about the opinion of a small group of people who incite violence or spread hate speech.”

But Musk thinks that Twitter’s biggest problem right now is that “it has a strong bias to the left,” which makes it hard for the rest of the United States and the rest of the world to trust it. During the video conference, he said, “I think Twitter should be more fair.”

Trump used Twitter to share news, attack critics, and set the government’s agenda. He said he is glad the company is now in “safe hands” after Musk bought it, but he said he would not return to the company. Instead, he plans to stay on Truth Social, his own social network. On Twitter, Trump had many more followers than on Truth Social.
Will Trump use Twitter again now that Musk is in charge?

Musk’s comments suggest that the decision on Trump and other banned accounts will be put off while the company works to reassure users and advertisers, who bring in 90% of Twitter’s revenue, that the platform will not turn into hell. Musk is also working quickly to increase Twitter’s income, even through a subscription service, after getting a lot of money to pay for the $44 billion purchase.

Musk said in a tweet on Wednesday, “Twitter’s content moderation council will include people with a wide range of opinions. These people will definitely represent the civil rights community and groups facing violence fueled by hate.”

Since Musk became Twitter’s de facto owner and CEO a few days ago, the platform has been flooded with hateful and other harmful content. This has caused civil society groups to speak out and some advertisers to think twice about working on the platform.

Musk said in a tweet thread on Wednesday that he had met with people from the Anti-Defamation League, the National Association for the Advancement of Personnel of Color, Color of Change, the Asian American Foundation, and other groups to talk about “how Twitter will continue to fight hate and harassment and enforce its election integrity policies.”

Yoel Roth, Twitter’s chief security and integrity officer, said on Tuesday that the company has “focused on addressing the rise in hateful behavior on Twitter. We have made measurable progress by getting rid of more than 1,500 accounts and cutting the number of people who see this content almost to zero. Musk and Roth have both said that Twitter’s rules have not changed since the company was bought.
