Willie Adams Hit The Winning Hit For The Brewers

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rowdy Tellez hit a homer in the ninth and Willie Adams hit a game-ending single in the 10th to help the Milwaukee Brewers win 4-3 Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.

After striking out in all three at-bats, Adames gave Christian Yelich an at-bat with an intentional walk in the 10th inning. His ground ball off Ryan Thompson (3-3) escaped shortstop Taylor Walls’ swoop and drove automatic runner Tyrone Taylor from second base.

Milwaukee completed a two-game sweep of Tampa Bay and later moved in-game to NL Central leaders St. Louis, who were playing in Colorado.

The Brewers are 3-5 since trading Josh Hader near San Diego before the trade deadline.

Tampa was overtaken by division rivals Baltimore in the battle for the final wild card spot in the AL playoffs.

In the top of the tenth, first baseman Telles caught Wall’s ground ball and threw to third base to cut off automatic runner Francisco Mejia. Puerto Rican catcher Victor Caratini then had a shot that retired Walls in an attempt to steal second base.

Devin Williams (3-2) ended the inning by striking out Jose Siri.

Venezuela’s David Peralta scored 4-2 for the Rays. Cubans Yandi Diaz 3-0 and Randy Arrozarena 4-1, with one run scored and one produced. Mexico’s Isaac Paredes 4-0, with Dominican Mejia scoring his 4-1 and Siri his 3-0.

The Brewers went 5-1 with an RBI by Dominican Adames. Mexico’s Luis Urias 4-1. Puerto Rico’s Caratini 4-0.
